Fort Baker is one of the most famous components of California's Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Fort, which borders the City of Sausalito in Marin County and is connected to San Francisco by the Golden Gate Bridge, served as an Army post until the mid-1990s, when the headquarters of the 91st Division moved to Parks Reserve Forces Training Area.

The property is undergoing LEED accreditation for its eco practices in reuse and green build, hopefully securing a Gold rating. It exists as a think tank conference center, with an Institute at the Golden Gate, working towards partnerships with environmentally minded and altruistic groups, rededicating Fort Baker as an eco-venue for the GGNRA, Conservancy, and Bay Area at large.

The Hydronika unit installed at Fort Baker is a 4 pipe system providing 20 tons of cooling using three separate 2 stage chilling circuits. Chillers are cycled for even wear and shut down individually as demand is satisfied.

The unit is exposed to a “salt air” environment and the stainless steel cabinet is outfitted with all-copper condensing coils.

Hot water is supplied by a natural gas fired 399K BTUH 95% AFUE boiler. All pumps are stainless steel and equipped with thermocouples that send constant readings to a programmable logic controller.

The four 1/2hp fans are governed by a variable speed drive that responds to signals from the PLC which is monitoring liquid line return temperatures. This application was designed and engineered by WSP Flack & Kurtz Inc. in San Francisco.
